I stayed in the same group this week as the feedback we got for the previous idea was very good. The others left to return to Ping Pong so I was given a new group. The group members I had was Emily Kan, Nathan Meek and Jasper Timoti Omeri. The feedback we got from the lecturers for the previous idea was to turn the bottle on their side so that only the ends of the bottles could be seen. This way the type would be much easier to read as the pixel size is much smaller and manageable. Knowing we would need more bottles we collected another 100 or so to add to out collection.
We experimented with putting the bottles on their sides to create the grid pattern and decided to light the bottle to see what they would look like.
The other thing we tested was shining light through the bottle and use the bottle of the glass as a lens. This worked reasonably well and would be a nice effect if many people were doing it at the same time.
To house the model I built a U shaped box out of MDF and put acrylic sheet on the front and back to protect the bottles and make sure no bottles would fall out of the stack.
Once we had both the bottles and the box we worked out our plan of how to show the type face.
We experimented with a drop shadow effect but decided in the end that it made the shape too confusing and the letter was not very visible
We instead decided to create a simple letter and use the coloured bottle for foreground, background and border. This way the text is very easy to see and still uses all 3 colours of bottle.
To finish off the idea I made some sketch up renders of the full size model and created context images to show the scale of the final pavilion.
