Being the final week before hand in there was a fair amount of pressure to get the pavilion right. The feedback we got from a couple of weeks ago was purely structural. We needed to find a way to make the bottle stay on their side without and glue or screen to keep them in place. Emily and Jasper stayed in the group and Steve Hight, Natalie Harris and Sam Mitchell joined to help.
Sam brought with him some inner tube rubber so we decided to use this with spun wire to create a grippy surface we can weave together and make a mesh for the bottles. We left Emily, Jasper and Natalie to look after the type while Steve and I made adjustments to the frame I built a couple of weeks before.
These was Natalie's contribution from he structural group to help with the pavilion.
We drilled holes in the sides and bottom of the box to make space for the wire and rubber pieces, Realizing that we had to connect the vertical pieces together we cut grooves into a piece of metal bar to create the top of the box.
The bottles fir on the wire well and the rubber kept them from slipping off. The wire could have been pulled tighter but in a full scale model this would be solved.
Once all the wire was in place the only thing left to do was to choose what part of the type face to show in our model. This was another pieces of feedback we got from previous weeks was that we shouldn't create a new type face to fit into the model but instead take a piece of the final type to showcase.
We also applied light to the bottles to see what it would look like at night.
To round off the project and show the full size I also did some sketch up renders and Natalie created the in context image.
